Synopsis: Secret Messages of the Sea is a site-specific immersive collaborative performance based on Jelsa’s daily sea life. It was developed with local, national and international artists, children, audience, sailors and water sounds. The performance was led by Paulina Almeida and Ron van Roosmalen, who worked together on the choreography and the dramaturgical design. Secret messages from the sea bring together the visions, thoughts, texts, visuals and sounds, collected during the art residence hold both inland and sea. In a subtle way, it brings to the surface thoughts and questions raised by the observation and listening of the sea and its community as our impact as humans on it. The sounds used during the performance were a combination of field recordings from the underwater workshops and the field trips in Jelsa.
Created in Jelsa with the participation of local, national and international artists, children, audience, sailors, sea people, water sounds and animals.
