DIS_turbation

Installation: geological and vulcanic sounds and materials

This audiovisual installation focuses on the ways in which underwater sound and vibration affect marine life, offering a tactile and visual experience of the disturbances caused by anthropogenic noise. In its final version,  presented and adapted to the conceptual and spatial context of Liminaria MMXXIV, DIS_turbation integrates geological and acoustic elements from the Partenio/ Taburno area with those of the island of Salina, linking marine and mountain contexts. The work reflects on the challenges for benthic species and uses the process of bioturbation to discuss underwater noise and vibroscape ecology, promoting a deeper understanding of the interaction between humans, sound and the environment.

LIMINARIA MMXXIV Cultural Geologies

DIS_turbation installation was the final output of an artistic residency developed in Amanei Salina in collaboration with Raquel Castro (Sonora Association) and Leandro Pisano (Interzona Association) and was presented at the tower of the Museu Archeologico Nazionale Del Sannio Caudino in San Martino Valle Caudina, Italy.

Supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
