OCEAN IN A BOX is an innovative homegrown seaweed kit designed to bring the curiosities of the ocean into the comfort of your home. This all-in-one kit includes everything you need to cultivate your own sustainable seaweed garden. The compact and user-friendly design makes it ideal for both novice and experienced seaweed enthusiasts, offering a hassle-free way to experience the joys of marine gardening. It also allows to upscale and grow into a professional use that can be extended to restaurants. We are also working on an open-source DIY kit for education.

OCEAN IN A BOX is the output of a challenge proposed by MTF Labs and Pölarbrot, where we came up with new ideas for the future of sustainable food. We did a prototyping workshop at their labs in Umeå in March 2024. The five selected projects, each focusing on creating a more sustainable plate of food in quite different ways, all went through a journey of rapid discovery and creative innovation. With participants and experts attending in person from Sweden, Portugal, Germany and Croatia and more contributing online, the five projects went from idea to practical demonstration over three intense days of collaboration, experimentation and testing.

Seaweed are the best dietary source of iodine, which helps support your thyroid gland. It also contains other vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin K, B vitamins, zinc, and iron, along with antioxidants that help protect your cells from damage.
